Speigler Brake Lines

- 6/13/2016

Great brake line set.
Easy to install with the adjustable banjo clamp.
I used the standard brake line splitter mounted on my forks. My forks are from a 92 FJ but the 84 splitter fit fine.
The only issue is the hoses could have been 1/2" longer. The left front brake hose in particular seemed to be a little shorter in radius at the banjo clamps when installed while the right hose seemed fine. Both hoses are identical in length but the left hose sits physically higher at the splitter so this means the hoses are not symmetrical when installed. What happens is the tighter radius at banjo fittings and greater stress which may deform the fitting and cause premature aging and leaks. Hence the set would be perfect if one lower line was slightly longer than the other.
The shortest hose in the set (master cylinder to splitter) could have benefited from some extra length too. There is interference, from the brake m/c itself, that does not allow a nice straight unstressed brake line. Orienting the banjo fitting to the left of the interference is not possible because the hose is too short. Orienting the banjo fitting to the right of the interference causes the brake hose to rub at end travel of handlebars.
The only way to fix the problem was to tighten my banjo fittings in a position that caused no undo stress or rubbing. A lot of playing. Again, an additional 1/2" to 1" of brake line here would have worked great.
I also installed a new rear brake line and again it could have been at least an inch longer. The front banjo fitting should tighten against its location tab/stop. This was not possible because the hose was too short.
All in all a nice product. Quality hoses.
Speigler just needs to review the hose lengths.
